1Laptops are standard machines, but a decade ago, having a laptop was a luxury.
This luxury was soon recognized by Cupertino giant Apple who introduced their set of laptops. And then, they gave birth to an idea of a new type of luxury – machines that didn’t weigh 8 pounds.
On January 15, 2008, Steve Jobs introduced the first-ever MacBook Air from inside the famous manilla envelope.
Since then, the notebook market has never looked back.
The MacBook Air is now a line of computers with a full-size keyboard, a machined aluminium case, and a lighter design than most of its competitors.
Even though the Air is now Apple’s entry-level notebook, it is still the laptop people choose with their eyes closed.
This article lists all the MacBook Air models from its iteration to the newly announced 2023 15-inch M2 MacBook Air.
You will read their specifications such as display, processor, storage, RAM, the day it was announced, its operating system, and much more.

FAQs
How many models of MacBook Air are there?
Including the 2023 15-inch M2 MacBook Air, there are 20 Air models. Of them, 17 are discontinued.
Are there different MacBook Airs?
Apple’s MacBook Air laptops are typically 13-inch, but there were some 11-inch laptops in the past. Now, the main difference is the processor: Intel and Apple’s very own M silicon.
Which generation of MacBook Air is best?
Apple’s M2-equipped 2022 MacBook Air, priced at $1199, is the best MacBook Air overall. Even though it isn’t launched for the common people yet, it has (almost) all the new improvements MacBook Air fans wished for.
If you can’t wait for the M2 MacBook Air and urgently need a laptop, then the M1 MacBook Air is still the best laptop and is recommended by many tech enthusiasts. The Apple M1 chip is faster than Intel and has a longer battery life, lasting over 14 hours on a charge.
Conclusion
These are the MacBook Air models from its inception to now.
Apple, known for the MacBook Air, set the bar for the slim-laptop market pretty high.
Ever since many manufacturers have tried to mimic its form factor – some have even succeeded – but the MacBook Air is still the premium, thin, and powerful machine thanks to Apple’s foray into their taste of silicon.
With a total of 20 MacBook Airs – including the 2023 15-inch M2 MacBook Air – this thin laptop has been the go-to laptop for many.
I migrated from a Windows 11 Dell XPS 15 to the 2020 M1 MacBook Air, and the difference is immense. I am proud to be a part of Apple’s cohesive ecosystem, and MacBook Air made it full circle.
If you own an iPhone and are planning to get a laptop, take a look at MacBook Air – especially the newest 13-inch M2 2022 MacBook Air or the recently announced 15-inch Air.
The MacBook Air, be it the 13-inch or the 15-inch (M1, M2) can handle all complex tasks you’ll throw at it, but if you are a content creator or need a suitable desktop replacement, try the 2022 M2 Pro/Max 14-inch or the 16-inch MacBook Pros. Those machines are desktop and Intel killers.
